[CALL FOR PAPERS] The 6th International Conference on Marine Sciences (ICMS 2025)

"Advancing Marine Science for a Sustainable Blue Economy"

Indonesia's coastal and marine regions are incredibly rich in biodiversity and natural resources, yet much of their potential remains untapped. This is despite the crucial role of unique physical and ocean-atmosphere dynamics, such as Indonesia's position connecting the Pacific and Indian Oceans, its significance in global thermohaline circulation via the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF), and the complex topography that generates internal waves and turbulent mixing. These processes profoundly influence the distribution of marine life and ecosystems. The marine and fisheries sector offers vast opportunities for sustainable development in various industries, from food and pharmaceuticals to bioenergy. However, it faces severe challenges from human activities like overexploitation, pollution, and the pervasive threat of climate change, which can alter species composition and compromise ecosystem resilience.

To address these challenges and unlock the sector's full potential, technological innovations such as digital technologies, big data, and artificial intelligence are essential for enhancing productivity and competitiveness while ensuring sustainability. Advancements across marine science disciplines, including biology, molecular taxonomy, marine biotechnology, and oceanography, are vital for effective resource management, exploration, and the sustainable development of marine bioresources. Collaboration among researchers in these fields, fostering cross-disciplinary partnerships, is key to stimulating research and development, accelerating initiatives, maintaining quality standards, and fostering new business ventures. The International Conference on Marine Sciences (ICMS) has proven to be a successful platform for facilitating these interactions and collaborations, with its sixth iteration scheduled for September 2025, continuing a decennial agenda of knowledge sharing and partnership building.
