Indonesia is home to a wide spectrum of local durian genetic resources, offering immense opportunities for the development of new superior varieties. Cultivating locally adapted durian germplasm significantly enhances the success rate and sustainability of production, largely due to their agro-climatic compatibility. The ‘Inul Brongkol’ durian is a prime example—a superior local variety identified through careful exploration, characterization, and evaluation of native genetic resources as part of ongoing plant breeding efforts. Originating from Brongkol Village in Jambu District, Semarang Regency, Central Java, the variety underwent extensive morphological, phenological, and biochemical assessment from 2021 to 2024. In 2023, it was registered and in 2024 officially recognized as a National Horticultural Superior Variety. Notably, ‘Inul Brongkol’ displays elevated sugar content (TSS), a higher percentage of edible fruit portion, more prolific yield, and reduced fat content relative to the ‘Kholil’ reference variety. Market preference for this variety is strong, as it excels in fruit size, shape, coloration, flavor, and aroma
