The 7th EMBRIO International Symposium (EIS 2025)
“Ocean for the Future: Integrating Marine Biodiversity, Sustainability, and Resilience”
September 2nd-3rd 2025
EMBRIO (Enhancing Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia) is one of CoE (Center of Excellence) at IPB University, Indonesia which is coordinated by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. EMBRIO promotes scientific and innovation based on marine biodiversity resources and to strengthen counteraction against marine biodiversity. EMBRIO has been established since 2013. EMBRIO aims to build an Indonesia wide, multidisciplinary research and training network with strategic international partners to become a center of scientific excellence on Indonesia marine biodiversity.
The vision of EMBRIO is to become a central gate into Indonesia for international scientists and research institutions seeking Indonesian collaboration. Mission of EMBRIO is understanding, protecting, rehabilitating, and sustainability of Indonesian marine biodiversity. The scope of EMBRIO activities are international symposium, international mini workshop, field course, research collaboration, visiting lecture, student exchange and summer course. This year, EMBRIO is organizing the 7th EMBRIO International Symposium (EIS 2025) to strengthen networks, disseminate research findings, and implement existing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), under the theme “Oceans for the Future: Integrating Marine Biodiversity, Sustainability, and Resilience.”
The concept of "Oceans for the Future" highlights the importance of integrated approaches in managing marine biodiversity, promoting ocean sustainability, and enhancing the resilience of marine ecosystems. This includes protecting biodiversity, implementing sustainable practices, and building resilience against challenges such as climate change and overexploitation. The ultimate goal is to ensure a healthy ocean that supports human well-being and future generations. The symposium will consist of a series of events, including presentations by keynote and invited speakers, followed by research presentations by symposium participants. The symposium will be held online on September 2nd-3rd 2025. The targeted proceeding for publication is Bio Web of Conferences.
Here are some themes the speaker:
Recognizing the ocean as a major repository of biodiversity, with vast numbers of species still undiscovered. Protecting and conserving this biodiversity is crucial for ecosystem health and the services they provide.
Implementing sustainable practices in all ocean-related activities, including fishing, shipping, and resource extraction, to avoid overexploitation and pollution.
Strengthening the ability of marine ecosystems to withstand and adapt to disturbances, such as climate change, pollution, and habitat loss.
Adopting integrated approaches to ocean management, like ICZM (Integrated Coastal Zone Management), that consider the interconnectedness of the ocean and coastal areas.
Advancing our understanding and protection of ocean biodiversity, enabling sustainable resource management and ecosystem restoration by integrating cutting-edge tools such as remote sensing, AI, and biotechnology.
Promoting a "blue economy" that supports sustainable marine development and provides societal benefits while protecting the environment.
Recognizing the need for international cooperation and collaboration to address ocean issues that transcend national borders.
By integrating these aspects, the "Ocean for the Future" concept aims to ensure that oceans remain healthy and productive, providing essential resources and services for human well-being and the planet's health.
