Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae oils protected in form of calcium soap (Ca-Soap) on physiological responses and hematology of male Garut sheep. Fifteen male Garut sheep were used and allocated into randomized block design with three treatments and five replicates. The treatments were control (P0), P0 + 4% Ca-soap (P1), and P0 + 8% Ca-soap (P2). The parameters observed included physiological responses, hematology, and water consumption. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and further tested using Duncan multiple range test. The results showed that the supplementation of 8% Ca-soap of BSF larvae oil into the ration caused the respiration rate in the morning lower (P<0.05) compare to control, however there were no significant effect on rectal temperature and heart rate of male Garut sheep. The Ca-soap of BSF larvae oil supplementation increased (P<0.05) lymphocyte count, but decrease (P<0.05) the N/L ratio of male Garut sheep. In conclusion, Ca-soap BSF larvae oil can be used as an energy source ingredient for ruminant without any negative effects on physiological responses and hematology of male Garut sheep.
