Abstract

According to Tech-Cooperation Aspac FAO (2018), as much as 69% of agricultural land in Indonesia is categorized as severely damaged due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This is related to the habits of farmers in Karawang Regency who are accustomed to using instant methods, unknowingly causing harm to the natural resources. The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of social innovation on empowering environmentally friendly farmer communities in Karawang Regency. This research was conducted using qualitative methods supported by quantitative data. The social innovation analysis method includes aspects of the fulfilment of community needs, the element of novelty as a solution to community problems, the existence of social change, and the increase in community capacity. The research location is in Plawad Village, Karawang Regency. The research results indicate that this social innovation indeed has an impact, encompassing social, economic, and environmental aspects. The success of the programme is influenced by the participatory empowerment model, both in planning, implementation, execution, and monitoring, as well as evaluation. The dialogical approach to raising awareness within the community also serves as a driver for the sustainability of this empowerment program.
