Cardiac examination in animals is one of many important imaging parameters for evaluating cardiac function and performance in myocardial infarction models. Pigs are used as heart models because they have many similarities in the structure and function of the heart to humans. One method of examining heart function and performance in animal models is echocardiography.
Echocardiography examination in pigs must be done while the animal is anesthetized. Animals that have been anesthetized are kept in cages, then their bodies are cleaned and taken to the ultrasound room. The animal is placed on an examination table with a special design for cardiac examination in a lateral lying position. Echocardiography examination in pigs is carried out on two lateral sides, namely the right parasternal recumbency position and the left apical recumbency position.
The values for cardiac examination parameters were obtained. Echocardiographic data taken included velocity data during systole and diastole, Pressure (Vs and Vd), TAMAX, Pressure (TAMAX), VTI, RI, PI, and SD using the PW procedure method. Right ventricular work function data was analyzed for end-systolic volume (ESV), end-diastolic volume (EDV), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), and ejection fraction (EF) using the Simpson single plane calculation method.
This data will also be supported by ECG, blood pressure, and left ventricular echocardiography data to obtain more integrated results.
