Mitigation and adaptation of land and water resources aims to identify existing and simple technologies sourced from local wisdom, as well as developing technologies that can proactively adapt to overcome climate change. To adapt to climate change, various efforts can be made. This includes developing resilient and adaptive plant varieties that are able to tolerate soil acidity, salinity and pest attacks. Apart from that, the application of water resource management technology such as rainwater harvesting through water reservoirs with long-term storage as well as the use of irrigation techniques such as drip irrigation, capillary irrigation, broadcast irrigation and point irrigation. Meanwhile, land resources include integrated nutrient management technology, land planning, sluice gates for tidal swamp land, polder systems for lowland swamp land, terracing for sloping land, and ground cover plants for dry land. The implications of climate change mitigation include various actions, such as implementing a one-way water management system with conservation gates, using high-yielding, low-emission and short-lived rice varieties, managing peatlands, and developing sustainable plantations. It is hoped that these climate change adaptation and mitigation activities can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve community welfare, and increase awareness and preparedness for the hydrometeorological disasters that we face together.
