The Greater Bandung Metropolitan Area has undergone massive spatial transformation, marked by converting agricultural land into built-up areas due to rapid urbanization and economic growth. This study aims to analyze the spatio-temporal dynamics of farmland and rural-urban transition in the Greater Bandung Metropolitan Area from 2003 to 2023. The study area covers eight districts/cities (Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung District, West Bandung, Sumedang, Subang, Purwakarta, and Garut) comprising 190 sub-districts. Using a multi-temporal approach based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the study examines land use change patterns within a 10 km radius of the city center. It analyzes rural-urban transition based on the Regional Development Index (RDI) at the subdistrict level. The research methodology integrates Land Use and Land Cover Change (LUCC) analysis through spatial-temporal overlay and change matrix analysis, IPD calculation using scalogram analysis, and K-means clustering techniques for regional typology identification. The research findings indicate that the average RDI value increased significantly from 35.79 (2005) to 41.84 (2014) and 93.18 (2021). The period from 2003 to 2013 showed a significant decrease in rice field areas, while the period from 2013 to 2023 demonstrated an increase in built-up areas in peri-urban zones. Various regional typologies were successfully identified based on LUCC characteristics and IPD values, reflecting spatial variations in the rural-urban transition process. The research findings provide an empirical basis for formulating more adaptive and sustainable regional planning policies to manage metropolitan dynamics, particularly regarding agricultural land conversion and inter-regional development disparities.
