Abstract

Artificial insemination using liquid semen is an appropriate method to improve genetic quality and liquid semen has proven to be a more effective solution to overcome the limitations of liquid nitrogen and the high cost of frozen semen storage. This research aimed to determine the combination of coconut water and egg yolk can be used as diluent for liquid semen of Boer goat cold storage. The method used experimental laboratory with 4 treatments and 10 replicates groups. The composition of diluent namely: P0 = CEP-3 + 10% egg yolk + 0.40% egg white, P1 = coconut water + 10% egg yolk, P2 = coconut water + 15% egg yolk and P3 = coconut water + 20% egg yolk. Variables observed studies of individual motility, viability, abnormality, intact plasma membrane and intact acrosome cap. The data were using Analysis of Variance and differences between treatments continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The quality of fresh semen volume 0.99+0.11 ml, with a yellowish white color, motility = 73±3.5%, abnormality = 8.96±1.05 and concentration = 4,120±441.46 million/ml. Analysis of Variance showed by individual motility, viability, intact plasma membrane and intact acrosome cap (P<0.01), abnormality showed (P>0.05). Concluded that addition egg yolk with percentage of 20% in coconut water diluent easily affect quality of liquid semen of Boer goat in cold storage until 3 days with motility 40.41%.
