Abstract

To implementing the IPB Homecoming Lecturer Program in 2024, the Aquaculture Department lecturer team has carried out integrated community-based grouper fish farming development program aimed to disseminate innovations in appropriate systems and technologies by utilize trash fish and small shrimp Acetes as fish feed. The target community was fish farmers located in Cangkring Village, Cantigi District, Indramayu Regency. This village has coastal waters and the Cimanuk river estuary which are rich in Acetes with an abundance of 900-1800 shrimp/L and produces wild fish that are processed into salted fish, which have great potential to be used as fish feed. The program was implemented in July - August 2024 through training, demonstration, and mentoring activities. The training was attended by members of the Pokdakan Usaha Bersama, the fish farmers of seaweed, milkfish, vaname shrimp and tiger shrimp. The demonstration and mentoring of grouper farming was carried out using facilities owned by Pokdakan members. Grouper nursery done on concrete tubs usually used for shrimp and milkfish nursery, while grow-out uses fixed net cages in ponds. Utilization of trash fish and Acetes caught around the waters can reduce costs compared to commercial feed. The availability of natural feed in abundant quantities can support ad libidtum feeding regime to faster fish growth. The advantage of using Acetes as live feed could reduce water deterioration due to feed rot. The community responded well to this activity and hopes to develop grouper cultivation as one of the cultivated commodities in Cangkring Village.
