Abstract

Farming of catfish (Clarias sp.) in Kediri Regency, East Java faces challenges due to the limited availability of high-quality broodstock and the insufficient mastery of spawning technologies, such as broodstock selection techniques and the use of natural ingredients and probiotics to accelerate gonadal maturation. These issues motivated the implementation of the Farmer Empowerment through Reproductive Process Education program, which aims to provide knowledge on proper catfish hatchery practices from broodstock selection to the application of probiotics and pine fruit extract to enhance gonadal maturation and rematuration. This community service activity includes outreach to farmers and discussions on program sustainability with the Kediri Regency Fisheries Office, supported by partners such as IPB University, the Kediri Regency Fisheries Office, fisheries extension officers (KKP), and local catfish farmer groups. The outreach activities were conducted using pre-tests and post-tests to evaluate effectiveness, with materials covering broodstock selection techniques, the use of pine fruit extract and probiotics to accelerate gonadal maturation, and broodstock rematuration. Evaluation results indicated a positive response from participants, as shown by an increase in average scores from 78.42 on the pre-test to 92.63 on the post-test, demonstrating that participants gained a better understanding of catfish farming technologies and are now more capable of applying them to produce high-quality broodstock.
