Abstract

Current security challenges in residential areas demand an integrated management system that connects residents, security personnel, and village authorities. Various criminal acts, such as theft and robbery, continue to occur in rural settlements and frequently result in casualties. These issues cannot be effectively addressed through conventional security systems. One of the contributing factors is the absence of a rapid, coordinated, smartphone-based communication mechanism capable of facilitating immediate citizen mobilization, which consequently delays responses to security incidents. To address these challenges, a smartphone-based intelligent communication application was developed and integrated in real time with a loudspeaker system to disseminate security-related information, enabling residents to gather promptly at the incident location. This community engagement initiative was conducted in two stages: training on the development of the intelligent communication device and training on its implementation at strategically selected locations to ensure optimal information dissemination among residents. Evaluation results using the Rank Spearman correlation test between pre-test and post-test data indicate a positive correlation in enhancing participants’ knowledge of the functions and construction process of the intelligent communication module integrated with the smartphone application, with a correlation value of 80%. Furthermore, based on a Bayesian analysis, the intelligent communication device was installed in the home of a selected resident identified as the most effective location for ensuring rapid distribution of security information to all villagers, yielding an alternative score of 4.2.
