Inovasi Produktif untuk Pelestarian Danau Toba: Penanganan Limbah Kemasan Pupuk/Pestisida/Herbisida Sayur-Buah
Keywords:
independent waste school, packaging waste, pesticide, triple rinsingAbstract
This community service activity aims to address serious ecological pressure in the Lake Toba region, particularly due to the improper handling of agricultural fertilizer/pesticide/herbicide packaging waste and residential waste, in order to support SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). The implementation method includes coordination with the target village, counseling on the impact of B3 (Hazardous and Toxic) waste, technical training, and demonstration of productive innovation implementation. The main innovation applied is the Triple Rinsing technique for pesticide packaging, followed by the treatment of rinse water using a Phytofilter (phytoremediation), and promoting better overall packaging management. Furthermore, for residential waste management, the concept of an Independent Waste School (Sekolah Sampah Mandiri) was introduced, focusing on building awareness, sorting, transportation, and waste processing. The activity involved 30 participants from farmer groups and the community in Raya Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency. The expected outcomes are an increase in knowledge and a change in community behavior regarding responsible waste management, the establishment of collaborative networks with partners (CropLife, Bayer, and STP), and a significant reduction in the amount of packaging waste directly discarded into the environment, thereby supporting the sustainability of the Karo and Lake Toba ecosystems.
