Abstract

Purworejo Regency is one of the main production centers of the Peranakan Etawa (PE) Kaligesing goat breed in Indonesia, with a population of approximately 42,000 heads in 2022. Despite its high economic potential from both meat and milk production, local farmers still face several challenges, particularly high feed costs and suboptimal productivity. This community service program aims to transfer knowledge from IPB University to local farmers through training on the utilization of local feed resources, the application of good farming practices, animal health, and strengthening managerial capacity in financial and marketing management. The training was conducted on July 11, 2025, in Bener Subdistrict, involving 20 PE goat farmers and 6 field extension officers. The training materials covered feed management, parasite control, farm record-keeping, and marketing strategies. Evaluation results indicated a 14% increase in participants’ understanding based on pre-test and post-test scores. The program successfully enhanced farmers’ awareness of feed cost efficiency, proper farm management, and self-reliance in local feed production. The expected impact includes an increase in milk productivity from an average of 1–2 liters to 2–3 liters per head per day, along with improved farmer welfare. Overall, this program serves as a model for sustainable farmer empowerment through local feed innovation, good farming practices, and the strengthening of economic institutions among PE goat farmers in Kaligesing.
