Community Service in Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi aim to enhance human resource capacity in the field of aquatic organism cultivation through training and mentoring programs. The series of events took place on August 8-9, 2024, and included: (a) training for fish farming groups in Bontosunggu Village titled "Maritime Development through Fish Farming"; (b) a hybrid public lecture on "Potential and Challenges in Mariculture" attended by students of the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program at Hasanuddin University in Benteng City; (c) discussions on program sustainability and exploration of collaboration with the Fisheries Department and Regional Secretariat; and (d) field visits and consultations with local pond farmers in Bontosunggu Village. Based on discussions with local government officials and fisheries extension officers from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the main challenges include limited mastery of technology, disease outbreaks, and insufficient marketing and sales strategies for production outputs. To address these challenges, the following materials were provided: (1) preparation of culture facilities, (2) aquaculture systems, (3) feed and feeding strategies, (4) water quality management, (5) fish and shrimp health management, (6) grouper cultivation
in floating net cages, (7) lobster cultivation, and (8) marketing of mariculture products. After the program, fish
farmers' knowledge and understanding improved, as evidenced by an increase in evaluation scores from 39.3 to
60.7 before and after the training sessions. Supported by abundant natural resources, applicable marine aquaculture technology innovations can help meet local food and nutrition needs, achieve self-sufficiency in
protein, and empower coastal communities economically.
