Abstract

The transmigration program in South Bangka has been running since early 1990s as a government’s strategy on expanding growth to less-dense populated areas along with revitalizing local economic potential. The National Priority Transmigration Area (KTPN) Batu Betumpang located in the South Bangka Regency, covers four sub-districts as written in the Ministry of Transmigration’s SIPUKAT database. The four sub-districts are Pulau Besar, Payung, Simpang Rimba, and Airgegas which are restricted to 26 villages in total, while the KTPN Batu Betumpang itself centered in Batu Betumpang Village. The whole area of KTPN Batu Betumpang reaches 190,278.28 ha. This research aims to compile policy recommendations for evaluating transmigration areas, with a focus on 5 dimensions: physical and environmental, economic, institutional, socio-cultural, and also infrastructure. Data collection methods in this research include field observations, map taggings, multi-stakeholder interviews, along with focus group discussions (FGDs) to strengthen the interview data. The following data will be processed using a SWOT-TOWS analysis per dimension. The results of this research will incorporate a map of the potential of superior local commodities and policy recommendations for evaluating transmigration areas. To support the sustainability of this research, a subsequent phase has been established to implement the policy recommendations generated in this phase. It is hoped that these proposed policy recommendations will bring positive change to the Batu Betumpang Transmigration Area.
