Abstract

Discussions with the village leadership concluded that parenting practices among parents in Ciasmara Village were still suboptimal, affecting children’s growth and development. To help address this issue, a community service program was implemented with the aim of improving mothers’ knowledge regarding nutrition, health, and psychosocial stimulation to support optimal child development. This program employed a holistic, community-based social intervention approach consisting of: (1) Characteristics and Development of Toddlers, (2) Balanced Nutrition for Toddlers, (3) Toddler Development Stimulation through Interaction and Play, and (4) Strengthening the Role of Families and Communities in Supporting Child Development. A total of 61 participants took part in the sessions, although attendance varied across sessions, resulting in differences in the amount of analyzable data. Program effectiveness was assessed using pre-test and post-test measurements conducted before and after each intervention. The data were then statistically analyzed to examine differences between pre- and post-intervention scores. The results showed an increase in achievement scores across all sessions. The Wilcoxon analysis indicated significant improvements from pre-test to post-test in Session 1 (z = –2.919, p = 0.001), Session 2 (z = –1.867, p = 0.020), and Session 4 (z = –3.027, p < 0.001). Thus, three out of four sessions successfully improved participants’ knowledge. In the session on Toddler Development Stimulation through Interaction and Play, although scores increased, the statistical analysis did not indicate a significant difference. Future activities are recommended to focus on strengthening and supporting parents in applying child-rearing practices.
