Abstract

The lack of skilled harvesting practices and limited knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS) have become major challenges faced by the Ciharashas Women Farmers Group (KWT Ciharashas) in their agricultural cultivation activities. The objective of the community service and development program (PPM) is to provide comprehensive training and intensive assistance to all members of KWT Ciharashas in order to improve their skills and knowledge in environmentally friendly and efficient harvesting and post-harvest techniques. Ultimately, this program aims to enhance the farmers’ welfare by improving the quality of harvested products and reducing post-harvest losses. The program’s approach includes: workshops with stakeholders (Mulyaharja Village Government, Agricultural Extension Officers, KWT Ciharashas members, and residents); reassessment of issues and priority needs related to harvest and post-harvest processes; training on strengthening the institutional capacity of organic farming groups, including sorting, grading, packaging, storage, and agricultural waste management; mentoring for institutional strengthening of organic farming groups; as well as monitoring and evaluation. The results show that the reassessment found that not all members fully understand proper harvest handling and have not yet applied appropriate OHS principles. Training on Good Handling Practices and the dissemination of safety regulations in the field became the main programs to address the problems and needs of KWT Ciharashas members. The training also produced several innovations, including a cardboard guide on Good Handling Practices, soil-care planting steps, work safety, and field safety regulations for KWT Ciharashas. In addition, training on the use of biocomposters with bag composter media has also been implemented by the group. The centralized and integrated PPM Program of the Vocational School in Mulyaharja is a continuation of previous initiatives as a form of shared commitment and stakeholder engagement established between the Vocational School and KWT Ciharashas. This commitment includes following up on the community service roadmap through 2027 using a social laboratory approach.
